Summer Science Fun Have fun learning this summer with these summer science activities: http://www.teachthought.com/maker-movement/20-stem-activities-for-kids-this-summer/ |
To familiarize yourselves more with the standards that your child will need to meet by June of this school year, please click on the link below:

These are some of the specific standards that we will be covering in second-grade this year:
K-PS2 Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions K-PS3 Energy K-LS1 From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes K-ESS2 Earth's Systems K-ESS3 Earth and Human Activity 1-PS4 Waves and Their Applications in Technologies for Information Transfer 1-LS1 From Molecules to Organisms: Structures and Processes 1-LS3 Heredity: Inheritance and Variation of Traits 1-ESS1 Earth's Place in the Universe 2-PS1 Matter and Its Interactions 2-LS2 Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics 2-LS4 Biological Evolution: Unity and Diversity 2-ESS1 Earth's Place in the Universe 2-ESS2 Earth's Systems K-2-ETS1 Engineering Design
I know it seems complicated, and it is, so just rest assured that science will be fun, fun, fun for your child this year. I have found that the kids absolutely love science, especially when we can do hands-on-science. Your part is to encourage your children to work hard and behave in all subject areas, and in general, because hands-on science requires that the children follow specific safety rules, proper use of equipment, and staying observant enough to get the most out of their science lessons. I always plan on doing earthworms, butterflies, and getting over to Globe Park as often as time permits because it is a great environmental resource for us. So, hopefully, we get to some if not all of those activities this year.

We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our earthworms so we can start studying them. Today we went out in 60 degree weather to dig some dirt from Globe Park along with some crushed leaves for food for the earthworms. The children cannot wait until their arrival!!
